![]() ![]() ![]() The head is smaller in the larger 32-bit sprite, though the proportions are still exaggerated in different ways. The head of the 16-bit Mega Man X sprite is gigantic for instance, and it would start looking really weird if you just did a 1:1 redraw of that sprite in a higher resolution. Another thing is how we don't notice things like clearly exaggerated or unrealistic body proportions, which is often a necessity either for readability or just the fact that there's not enough room for the nuance needed when the sprite resolution is that low. There's so much psychology going on under the hood with how we interpret classic pixel art that I don't think has been properly quantified.
